How Whole Planet Foundation Is Alleviating Global Poverty

You know Whole Foods Market for sustainable wild-caught seafood, organic produce and Animal Welfare Certified meats. But do you know about the work we are doing for communities outside of our stores — and around the globe?

Founded in 2005, Whole Planet Foundation is our nonprofit organization that alleviates poverty in countries where our products are sourced. The nonprofit’s mission is to empower the world’s poorest people with microcredit and the chance to create or expand a home-based business and lift themselves and their families out of poverty.

Watch the above video for an inside look at how Whole Planet Foundation opens in a new tab is working with Small Enterprise Foundation to help women entrepreneurs and their family members in South Africa. Whether they’re just getting started with their first business or they’re on their 10th microloan expanding their inventory, entrepreneurship is the vehicle that enables these women to impact their community.

Whole Planet Foundation’s work impacts people in the United States and 76 other countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. “The foundation’s efforts have created more than 21 million opportunities for people living in poverty to improve their own lives through their own hard work,” says Joy Stoddard, Director of Development and Outreach for Whole Planet Foundation.
